The ‘One T-shirt One Pair of Jeans’ Myth (1/4)
Another very common misconception is Derek owning just a single black T-shirt and one old pair of jeans, or the One T-shirt One Pair of Jeans Myth, as I like to call this particular fanfic trope in my head. It usually only happens in fics that have the magical “I don’t watch the show” in AN. But still, I felt like this should be addressed and I ended up being quite surprised myself!
Derek has a lot of T-shirts. Like, a lot. At first I was sure I would be able to make just one, maybe two posts about this, but after screencapping the first six episodes of season one, I realized that he actually changes shirts two times per episode or more, so. Four posts it will be!
In the first six episodes of season one Derek wears:
- 2 different leather jackets (even though the first one from ep 01 did not appear again)
- at least 4 different pairs of jeans (the black ones are harder to differentiate between so let’s say that it is the same pair)
- at least 11 different t-shirts

Let’s set things straight: it’s not a proof of his “monosyllabic” tendencies. In this scene, he was kind of exasperated by Scott, who came looking for him the second something bad happened. Yes, it’s a sign Derek is rather impatient, a bit immature and most importantly he doesn’t like to waste his breath (on stuff that are obvious). But it doesn’t mean he’s a caveman who doesn’t know how to use words.
Also if you haven’t noticed Derek Hale’s deadpan then I’m not sure we’re watching the same show.

I just started using TVPaint and WOW, SO THIS IS WHAT IT’S LIKE TO USE A REAL ANIMATION PROGRAM. It’s like I’ve been animating with 10 pound weights on each finger and now that I’ve taken them off I can fly. So this is my first tvpaint experiment, 212 frames, 24fps.
